New Works for Fall 2011

This fall season, I am working up some new kinds of glass work. I am developing some forms that are made out of recycled bottle glass. My first attempts at this are a bit rough, as I lack some equipment that I really need, like a lap grinder and a saw, so I am breaking the source glass with a hammer, fusing the broken glass into a thick form that I can then slump. I am hand cutting and doing some grinding work, but my goal is to get this new equipment I need this year so I can make some more finished forms,.
I have to say,I actually like the primitive bowls and the fact that they are made from 100% recycled bottles really excites me.
I also took a broken vase someone gave me, broke it up, re-fused it, then slumped that fused piece into a small dish form, it came out like this:
Some new jewelry I am making is created from African recycled glass beads, and copper wire. I didn't make the beads, but I do the wire work. Again, sort of primitive and tribal looking.
I am also working on some more traditional glass but painting the pieces myself, and creating other different kinds of bowls. I will post pics as I finish pieces. I also plan on doing some more jewelry, sets of things made out of glass, copper and also glass and silver that I will metal-smith all by hand. I am not sure where I am going with all this, but this is the direction I am going! More soon.
